Contemporary

(10 years & up)

Unlike ballet or modern dance that have rules governing body placement, movement qualities, and choreographic composition, contemporary dance is an expressive style of dance that combines elements of other genres including modern, jazz, lyrical, and classical ballet.

Contemporary dance choreographers aim to break away from the restraints of traditional techniques and compositional styles and can use the contemporary dance label as a way to experiment with new ideas and challenge convention.

Students enrolling in Intermediate through Advanced Contemporary classes are required to take at least one ballet class.
