Choreography
A class structured to give students the tools to choreograph their own work. A prepared mindset to creativity! Students will be taught depth of the dance, emotional content, spacing, musicality, and motivation behind the movement. Students will learn transitions (choreographing section to section), repetition (too much not enough), and syncopation (counterpoint and canon). Improvisation will be used in the class as a teaching technique. Students will get guidance in learning how to assemble moves into a complete dance. They will learn how to analyze the music and think about which moves would fit with each section. They will earn to unleash their creative spirit and respond to how the music feels at the moment. Improvisation technique will be developed as an important and satisfying part of this creative outlet.
Requirements: Class is open to students who take dance seriously and have aspirations in choreography and teaching. The student must be mature, at least 12 years of age and trained in ballet and jazz, lyrical and modern a plus.
Students should also have a comfort in improvisation. This class is geared to the disciplined, skilled and versatile dancer.
